  18. The real-time playback offered by the A4000/Toaster 4000 setup is 
  19. full-screen, 256,000 colors. I guess it would be analogous to a 
  20. full-screen 16-bit AVI, without sound. It isn't 24-bit video, though the 
  21. output is NTSC, tapeable, broadcastable, whatever. The PAR uses 24-bit 
  22. images, for instance, though they are compressed.

  24. If you looking for a way to output animation to tape, there are better 
  25. ways to go than the Toaster's real-time playback, IMHO. The PAR, as you 
  26. mention, comes to mind. And the Flyer. Basically, any card that outputs 
  27. digital NTSC (or PAL if that's what you need). The question revolves 
  28. around compression vs. cost.

  30. Or, you could pick up a deck (format of your choice) and single-frame to 
  31. tape. I got a Sony Hi-8 deck with Serial RS232 control for sale, if 
  32. you're interested.
